Position Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa is seeking a physician for an Academic OBGYN Laborist position in the Division of General Obstetrics and Gynecology. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience. Responsibilities will include instruction and supervision of resident physicians and medical students. During shifts on Labor and Delivery, this physician will lead a team that provides safe, high-quality, cost-effective obstetrical care using evidence-based medicine and best practices. The multi-disciplinary obstetric team includes OB/GYN generalists, Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists, Certified Nurse Midwives, Nurse Practitioners, Family Medicine obstetric providers, Residents and Fellows.



This role will be based at the Medical Center on the University Campus managing the obstetric unit, staffing triage, labor management, and deliveries including operative deliveries. The position includes rounding on antepartum and postpartum patients, providing obstetric and gynecologic consultations to the inpatient and emergency departments, consulting for family practice obstetric providers and advanced practice providers. There are opportunities to be involved in obstetric quality and safety initiatives and committees.



A 1.0 cFTE position would require 12 shifts monthly (12 hours each) with opportunities to pick up additional shifts for additional compensation. 



Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



 

Education Requirement:

Successful candidates must possess a medical degree (MD) or equivalent. This position requires completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in obstetrics and gynecology. 

Required Qualifications:

Required qualifications include excellent clinical and surgical skills, excellent skills in patient management, strong oral and written communication skills, demonstrated teaching skills, and commitment to team culture. The applicant will be required to have licensure eligibility by the Iowa Board of Medicine and will be required to be licensed by the Iowa Board of Medicine before commencement of employment.

Certifications:

Certifications include American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology active candidate/board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.  

Desirable Qualifications:

Experience in teaching and practicing in a busy obstetric practice.
