Position Description:

The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine seeks candidates for Assistant, Associate or Professor positions on either the tenure track or non-tenure clinical track to join an active and expanding Pathology department.  Our intent is to recruit a hematopathologist to provide pathology coverage needs at the University of Iowa (UI) as well as the Iowa City Veterans Administration (ICVA) hospital.  Physician-scientist candidates with productive research programs or clinical-track faculty candidates are equally welcome to apply.



The Clinical Pathology services at UI and ICVA encompass a broad range of coverage across multiple subspecialty disciplines, including hematopathology, coagulation, molecular pathology , chemistry, microbiology,  transfusion medicine, and informatics.  There are opportunities for development of regional outreach programs and other leadership opportunities within the VA system.



Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



 

Education Requirement:

  • MD, MD/PhD, DO or equivalent

  • Graduation from an accredited Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP), Anatomic Pathology (AP), or Clinical Pathology (CP) residency program

  • Fellowship training or equivalent experience/expertise in hematopathology

Required Qualifications:

  • Board certification in Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology with credentials required to obtain a medical license in the State of Iowa

Desirable Qualifications:

These are highly desirable qualifications:




  • >2 years of academic experience

  • Experience with blood, bone marrow, and lymph node morphology as well as flow cytometry

  • Experience with coagulation testing and hemoglobin electrophoresis

  • Fellowship training or equivalent experience in molecular pathology

  • Demonstrated ability to excel at scholarship

  • Dedication to excellence in teaching and mentoring medical students, pathology residents, and fellows
