Position Description: | Multi-Specialty Anesthesia Division Chief The University of Iowa department of Anesthesia is seeking an accomplished academic anesthesiologist to serve as chief of its Division of Multispecialty Anesthesia. Anesthesia for the following surgical specialties are included in this division: general surgery, otolaryngology, oral surgery, vascular surgery, trauma surgery, urology, transplant surgery, and ophthalmology. This position is available at the rank of associate professor or professor in the clinical or tenure track. The division chief will have a clear vision for advancing anesthesia for these specialties as well as advancing the careers of anesthesiologists who provide multispecialty anesthesia. The candidate will have experience collaborating with perioperative physicians and other colleagues and demonstrated leadership skills in shaping the future of the division. About Us The UI Department of Anesthesia has its roots in the first formal anesthesiology residency program to be established at an American university. Today, the Department boasts more than 80 faculty members, 57 residents, and 12 fellows who provide clinical anesthesia services for more than 50 operating rooms at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, as well as procedural anesthesia services for Pediatrics, Radiology, and nearly 20 other surgical and non-surgical clinics and specialty suites. This broad range of services places the Department in the 99th percentile for diversity of surgical cases among U.S. hospitals. Departmental faculty serves on editorial boards of major anesthesiology journals, provide refresher courses for the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting and serve as board examiners of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Department researchers are funded by the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and non-governmental organizations. The Department has an extensive and well-organized mentoring program for junior faculty and is proud of its tradition of providing a wide range of career development opportunities.
