POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of Student Life Rape Victim Advocacy Program is seeking Temporary On-Call Direct Services Advocates to serve as staff back ups (SBUs) providing confidential, medical, legal, personal, and system based advocacy, and other direct services to sexual assault victims/survivors during overnight, weekend, and daytime business hours. Must be able to take call shifts on a rotational basis with other staff members and

  • respond within 60 minutes to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (for calls from Cedar, Iowa, and Johnson Counties)
  • respond virtually within 30 minutes for calls from Des Moines, Henry, Lee, Washington, and Van Buren Counties)

 

Duties include:

  • Provides direct services to clients including crisis line, medical, legal, personal, and system based advocacy.
  • Provide on call direct service on a pre-scheduled rotating basis.
  • Submit timesheets and other required forms and vouchers to RVAP main office as required.
  • Record information on call sheets in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to increase access to services for underserved and marginalized communities.

 

POSITION BASICS:

Pay Rate/Range:$25-$250 per shift (depending on shift), plus $25 hourly

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

Hours: Varies depending on the number of advocacy calls

Shift: All shifts available

Work Week: Work mostly nights and weekends; some day shifts available

Additional Hours: As needed

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and respond quickly and effectively to challenges and deadlines.
  • Experience with standard office computer applications.
  • Ability to complete RVAP Advocate training within the first month of employment.
  • Available transportation to respond to advocacy calls.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals, groups, and diverse backgrounds in a constructive and collaborative manner.
